valve guide question

In my suburban, last year we put in a 350 motor 1 year ago that we bought from NAPA. About 3 months ago when we accelerated, we would hear a ticking noise. The shop told us we needed the valve guides adjusted. Well, a couple of days ago we started hearing that ticking sound again. What is the best thing I need to do so this doesn't happen every 3 months or so?

Valve guides don't have a adjustment (on a small block Chevy that is);
If a shop told you that I would wonder what was up there.

Maybe they meant the rocker arms or setting the lash.

Do you know if you have solid lifters in it?
They require adjustment every so often (or they used to)

rocker arms

I meant the rocker arms. 3 months ago was the first time we had to get them tightened down. Here it is 3 months later and we are having to do it again. Doesn't make since to me.

The next time you have to adjust the rocker arms/ valves, change out all 16 nuts that adj. the arms. They are made to be turned on only once and it sounds like you have exceeded that, have someone adj. the valves and put the new lock nuts on. You may want to inspect all the rockers at the same time too see if are not damaged (worn) from being lose
