fuel pump and tank for fuel injection

What's the cheapest tank or pump set-up that I can find for putting a in-tank fuel pump setup under my 85 shortbed?

What I have:
1985 chevy shortbed
It has dual tanks
I'm taking one tank out, if not both, and replacing them with a tank that I can put the high performance fuel pump in.
I have a high performance pump now, 340lph, so all i need is the sending unit piece to adapt, or if there is a cheaper tank alternative to try.

I didn't see anything as of yet, I'll go search some more!

Thanks

D Moss

Re: fuel pump and tank for fuel injection

You can get a rear mount tank for a 87-91 suburban and the sending unit also. The tank has the baffles built in it.
There's sevral threads on here on how to make the mounts.

Re: fuel pump and tank for fuel injection

You can use 87-91 R/V TBI senders in your existing tanks. With a fuel pump matched to your fuel injection setup. The only downside is your tanks don't have baffles.

If you want to stay with the side tanks get them for the 87-91 truck, they have the baffles also.

Re: fuel pump and tank for fuel injection

rs72z....

So a fuel tank out of a shortbed 88-91 pick-up will work? Bolt in?

If so, I should be able to get one of these really easy, and put my pump on the factory bucket set-up.

Thanks

Re: fuel pump and tank for fuel injection

88 up short bed tanks will not work!
You need 87 short bed tanks (which have the baffles), or you can use the sending units from one of the TBI squares, any 1987 all or 1988-91 crew cabs, mounted into your existing tank. you won't have the baffles so don't plan on racing with low fuel.
Probably the best set up is to convert to a rear mounted 87-91 K5 Blazer tank, moves the weight back and pretty easy to do, judging by some of the threads on the board (do a search here, lots of good info).

Re: fuel pump and tank for fuel injection

I don't think they made shortbed RV trucks after 1987.

Why not use a external inline fuel pump from Bosch or Walbro brand.I'm using the Bosch with a MSD atomic EFI kit.

Re: fuel pump and tank for fuel injection

No need to reinvent the wheel. Just get tanks and sending units for an 87 SWB. Done

Everyone has their own opion on fuel pump location. I would never use a external pump if i could use a intank pump. The reason being is the intank pump is cooled by the fuel in the tank. The second reason is if you are away from home and have a pump go bad any parts store should have a pump to get you going.
I had a external pump on a truck with f.i. once and everytime it got summer in TX it would leave me on the side of the road. jmo

Re: fuel pump and tank for fuel injection

I just went the easy route and ordered a 87 R/V TBI tank and sending unit. Was fairly inexpensive as well.
