Engine swap

Hi guys, just a question...I have a 65 gmc with the small inline 6 cyl and 3 spd standard trans. Will a small block chevy v8 bolt to this transmission?

Re: Engine swap

Chevy used the same bellhousing and bolt patterns for the I6 and SB v8

Are you keeping the 3 speed?

I'm doing the same thing with mine. Just bought a 383 and need to figure out what I can reuse. I was hoping I could just bolt that sucker in there and then upgrade the trans to a 5 speed later.

Re: Engine swap

The options for transmissions were the muncie sm318 3 speed or sm420 4 speed. Either trans will work with either engine. A SB V8 could be ordered with either from the factory as could the I6. The auto trans was the 2 speed powerglide.
