5.3 Belt issues

I've got a 5.3 without power steering. I have the Speedway high mount alternator bracket and a Speed and Performance swivel thermostat housing. I'm running the belt included with the Speedway bracket. The belt rubs on the thermostat housing. Anyone else run into this? The tensioner is in the stock location.

Re: 5.3 Belt issues

Have you got a photo to show what's happening there? It may just be that the two items aren't compatible together. That the thermostat housing will work with an otherwise stock AC bracket while the AC bracket will work with a stock thermostat housing but they won't work together.

I went on a hunt and can't find "Speed and Performance" except for a Bike parts outfit. I wanted to see what that particular thermostat housing looked like.

Re: 5.3 Belt issues

From scrolling through and looking at the Street & Performance catalog it looks like their setups run the belt well inboard of the outlet.
It may be that you will have to come up with an idler that runs the belt further to the inside than it is now.

I know it's hard to see but you should be able to tell that the belt is laying on the water neck.

Re: 5.3 Belt issues

This is kind of unrelated but on my 5.3, I had excessive squealing. The solution was a Goodyear Gatorback belt. Made all the difference in the world.

Re: 5.3 Belt issues

I put a shorter Gates belt on it and it seems to be working. If that does the trick then I will swap it for a Goodyear belt.
