Re: Question 454 big block in 51 chevy truck

My BBC is in a 55 with a clip but engine wise it should be the same. Mine is a MK-4 which is the older big block. I used a March pulley set for a stock 454 with power steering and used the stock GM brackets. I made the AC bracket out of strap and tubing and put it down low since I hate the aftermarket ones that put things way up in the air in front of the engine. The idler pulley is an auto parts store purchase and is bolted to the alternator bracket. I measured it all with a seamstress tape and bought a belt to fit. I powder coated my brackets with what we call 5 foot chrome, but you could have your parts plated, depending on the look you want. The only caveat is with the AC lower, you can't run a mechanical fuel pump which wasn't in my plans anyway. Here are a couple of pictures.

Look at Bills Bracket Company. Speedway Motors sells them too.

Re: Question 454 big block in 51 chevy truck

I have a 51 GMC as well but mine is ontop of a 75 3/4 ton 4x4 frame. I'd like to put a big block in it. Is there any mods that you had to do to fit your big block in your truck. Such as cab placement, fenders, radiator, etc? Mine currently has a 350, but it looks like a very tight fit.
Thanks,
Wayne

Re: Question 454 big block in 51 chevy truck

Look at my build thread and I have several pictures. I am doing a 454 in a 52 but everything should be the same as your 51. It is really tight but so far everything is fitting...lol.
