Re: idiot question - how remove chevy 283 bellcrank
There's a notch in the bracket on the frame side. Once you get the nut off (or loose), pull the bell crank/bolt assembly back then up to release it from the frame bracket. Once loose from the frame bracket, you then just pull the bell crank off of the engine ball...
Edit: There's a diagram on page 79 of the LMC catalog http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cbe/full.aspx?Page=79 Last edited by newbe351; 06-20-2012 at 04:22 PM. |

really just simply pull it? ok i just didnt want to break anything. i know th9is is moronic but how do i get at it without destroy9ing it? my guess is the grease is pretty solid in there.

Re: idiot question - how remove chevy 283 bellcrank
argh i cant get this damn thing. i may have mis-typed. what i need to get out is the round piece that has the 2 connecting arms for the clutch linkage. i can lift the frame end of the pieceup and out but i cannot slide that tube piece over enough to get it out. tried lightly tapping with a hammer, nada. do i need to hit it enough back towards the firewall side in order to slide it out so i can get the header in? what a pain in the a$$. i dont want to just bash things. i cannot get a wrench on the 5/8 side because that housing is in the way. does this make any sense at all lol?

Re: idiot question - how remove chevy 283 bellcrank
I've had mine out when I still had the V6 in there (66 GMC), then on several occasions after I swapped in a SBC trying to get the right Z-bar (bell crank)/clutch linkage combination. I've never had any trouble pulling it off of the engine ball. The frame bracket is what holds everything in place. You may try to rotate it around to move the linkage arms to a better location to gain some clearance. It's full of grease (hopefully) which may be providing some resistance, but it should just pull out with the ball stud remaining on the engine.
Hopefully I understand what you are trying to remove? |

Re: idiot question - how remove chevy 283 bellcrank
yeah thats the piece but now i jammed it trying to whack it with a hammer. theres simply no way to get the needed space to get it off the ball and up and out. i tried hitting it to get it to go back towards the firewall so the engine end will slip off the ball. nope now its stuck there. wth am i doing wrong. i am seriously starting to dislike working on these things lol
