cowl vent leaking
i recently bought a 66 swb(ill post pics later) trying to get all the little stuff fixed on it before i start really fixing it up, it seams the cowl vent leaks when it rains, in between the vent and kick panel. is there a seal there?

Re: cowl vent leaking
The drain in the bottom of the vent housing is probably clogged up with leaves and debris. Normally water just runs out the bottom, so it should never reach the level of the vent opening. If you have access to a compressor or a weed blower you might try closing the vent doors and blowing up through the bottom of the drain to clean the clog. Or you can remove the vent assemblies and try vacuuming out the bottom of the housing.
Here are a couple photos of the drain. These are shots of the passenger side looking over the right front tire:

Re: cowl vent leaking
Hey Mark for years I thought mine were leaking, kept resealing them...turned out to be the rain gutter in the very front middle of the cab leaking down to the windsheild seal and running down to each side rolling out at the kick panel, so he might want to check that as well.

Re: cowl vent leaking
Good point, I wouldn't have thought of that.

Re: cowl vent leaking
Top of the cab at the edge is the rain gutter that runs all the way around the cab, that is where the top is welded on to the outer perimeter, the factory seals this with cauking, over time the cauking starts to crack and leak down into the area just above the windsheild, it can go one way or both depending on where the leak is, all the old cauking needs to be removed with either sand blasting or wire wheel, painted with an epoxy primer and resealed with the proper sealer.
if it is in fact leaking there. run a garden hose on the top so that it is just a slow trickel and watch inside the cab.
