OEM Windshield Rubber Gasket: Soak it to Soften it?

I recently found a truck in a local junk yard with very nice winshield trim and relatively pliable rubber gasket. The windshield was already broken, so I pushed it out from the inside with my feet. The gasket came out very nicely with the trim fully intact (it was a 1970 model with the shallow trim channel in the rubber. I have read before that people have good results reusing OEM rubber, and that it tends to fit better than the repop stuff. I also remember that these people soak the old rubber in something to soften it up a bit before install. Does anyone know what this soak solution is?? Thanks.

I found soaking the rubber in soapy water (dish soap - joy) and installing it while the rubber was still wet helped make it easier to install.

Let it sit out in the sun and get warm. Spray the channel on the gasket and body down with foamy glass cleaner to install it. If its that good then that should be all you need to install it. Worked very well on my last one and I'll be installing another here soon and plan to use the same method.
