1981 trans.

what auto tranny came in a 1981 c-10 with v8.
looking at a 81 step side today for my son he said it had a 350 motor autotrans , I hoping its a 700r (overdrive) any thoughts

350, 350C or TH400. 700R4 was not available in 1981. I don't remember what year the 350c showed up. It loks like a 350 with a wire going to it.

If the 81 c10 has a 350 engine in it there is no telling what transmission it has (81 c10 should have a 305 unless it is a diesel 350). Sometimes when the engine is swapped out they swap the transmission as well. At 31 years old you almost just have to be able to look under it and figure out what it is.

he said it had a crate 350 in it and would let me know bout the trans,i was hoping for a 700r should be better mpg but i bet its a turbo 350
