Calling all Painters!
I went to a car show last weekend and saw a F@rd painted the "Red" that I want to paint my 64. The owner of the car stated the color as "National Bright Red". He said it was pure red paint originally a Dupont tinting paint. That is the color that is used to make all other reds. If any one has a code or a complete name it would be appreciated.

Re: Calling all Painters!
Well your first stop should be the Dupont paint supplier or get the local paint store to change the dupont color [a number really would be helpful here] to a another number say a ppg one. Painting your truck with a mixing color I would suspect that it will get crazy expensive I would guess somewhere over a grand iust for the base color.

Hugger - when you mentioned base color it helped me to refine my search. As it turned out Tint Code 430-25 Bright Red sounds right. I am sure it will be very expensive and a grand is not too far off. But I plan on this being my retirement project and I have a couple of years to save up.

Re: Calling all Painters!
My original budget for Paint Material was 2K. It looks like that will be a little low but since I will be doing all of the labor it will still be a lot less than dropping it off somewhere. This will not a perfect show truck but I will use it during the Christmas season when I do my Santa Gigs.

Re: Calling all Painters!
i found a warehouse full of mixing colors a few months ago for really cheep and i asked my buddy at my paint supplier what it would take to use this and he said that this was only the pigment and would have to have the correct binder to get it to adhere to the surface and i could not use just pure pigment alone and went on to explain thats why some colors cost more than others some like red and orange take more pigment therefore cost more while black and white take less pigment and cost less so i would guess this particular red you described should cost no more than any other red color here is the paint mix for INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER RED.
Nason FulThane (DuPont 27146) - "Harvester Red" 430-25 BRIGHT RED 430-22 PERRINDO RED 430-04 WHITE 430-02 CARBON BLACK 435-91 URETHANE BINDER

Re: Calling all Painters!
One time I carried a panel off of a truck to the store because the paint they mixed by code was stupid wrong. I had them use their profit machine [takes a picture and digitally turn it into a paint code] and it came out to be International red. That was a real leap and a head scratcher to go from victory red to International red. Good luck and happy sanding Jim

Re: Calling all Painters!
Most reds have 2 shades of red, orange, blue a drop of black and a drop of white. The last time I checked normal base coat red like Viper Red was around eleven hundred a gallon for PPG. Red toner by itself is easily double that for a gallon plus the cost of the binder. Honestly I would find another bright red and shoot it over a bright white base or sealer to make it pop instead.
