70 c10 driveshaft length?
I have a 1970 C10 shortbed and I am installing a 383 stroker with a 700r4 tranny. What size driveshaft should I use? And can I use one from any other vehicle that will fit? Thanks for the help.

Re: 70 c10 driveshaft length?
I have the same engine and transmission in my '68. I had a one piece (I believe it was 3.5" chromoly) made. They told me it was the upper limit for length of a one piece shaft. But at the time a custom built two piece was not in the budget. It has worked fine. I highly recommend getting a proper shaft built, the potential for vibration is huge with a one piece especially if you're running a high ratio rear end. The measurement is easy once you have the engine and transmission sitting in place.
I twisted off two originals before I made the switch. Bearing stuff is cool, the first one made a cool trophy. Breaking the same part twice, not so cool. If you do go to a once piece. Cut the hanger bearing mount off the crossmember. Otherwise the 'tink' noise you hear at the first set of train tracks will make your skin crawl. |

Place in windsor called Bears performance. Almost every city will have a driveline shop somewhere. Most will service mainly big trucks and pto stuff but will also do work for custom and race guys as well. Most won't have a flashy web page like bears so you may have to do some digging.
