Ford 9 inch axle questions

Would this be a good axle to put into the rear end, to get rid of the one ton axle? Its got 5 lug nuts, I'm thinking of getting rid of the one ton front and rear so my options open up with the build.

Re: Ford 9 inch axle questions

9" are great, but I would reserve them for an all out performance build. If you want to run a 5 lug front and rear you would need Dodge stuff to keep the bolt pattern the same. Look for a set of 10 bolts?

Thats a great rear axle, but not the best choice for what you want to do. If it were me, I would find a 10 or 12 bolt from a GM truck that will drop right in place. Your going to have to build that one from the ground up.

Re: Ford 9 inch axle questions

It dependes on how much you get it for and what's on the inside. If it were a 31 spline with a trac-loc then it would be a good axle for what you want. If it is an open diff or 28 spline then I would avoid it bc it will cost more to upgrade it. You can build the 9" for real cheap and there are a ton of used parts out there for them. There isn't anything wrong with the 12 bolt either and you can get one ready to bolt in w/o any issues or upgrades.
