Clutch Problems

This weekend I put a 283 I had in the 63 4x4 i just brought home in hope of just being abel to drive it. The engine has a new clutch and was previously in front of a 3 speed, I now have a 4 speed behind it. My problem is that when I push the clutch in its only the resistance of the spring in the cab untill about 1 in from the floor and then there is slighty more pressure but the clutch wont dis engage, it is a manual linkage. help?

Re: Clutch Problems

Had the same exact thing on a '64 GTO. Turns out we had the clutch disc in backwards. Pain in the neck to pull it out again but it did work flawlessly after that

Re: Clutch Problems

Which throw out bearing did you use? There are 2 different length of them, depending on which pressure plate you are using. Is it a 3 finger or a diaphram pressure plate?

Re: Clutch Problems

did you lose that little wedge shaped piece that goes on the end of the adj rod that fits into the throw out arm????
mind you, you wouldn't have needed to take that apart just to take the trans out. if it all worked before and you never took the clutch out and if you didn't play with the linkage. it can only be in the area of the t/o brg. did you knock it of the arm and not get it back on right??
