Tailgate ID help

Don't know much about the squares so I thought I'd ask for some help identifying exactly what year this gate is from. I was picking up a nice '66 gate from the seller and they wanted to move this one along too. I couldn't pass it up as it is totally original and nearly perfect. What year and model or range of years is it correct for? I'm also going to post a WIW query in the appropriate place. Thanks in advance.

Re: Tailgate ID help

For sure it's a 77 to 80 style gate with that extra rib protruding along the inside top edge and the lacking of the welded tab guides on the upper edge that the 73-76 style had. Then the trim narrows it to 78 to 80 as the 77 would have had gold painted insert. I believe GM used that Catalina blue color all those years too so saying which year exactly is narrowed only to 78 79 80 based on the style of gate and trim color. Mark

Re: Tailgate ID help

Great info! Thank you very much. So what level of trim is this? Silverado, Sierra, Cheyenne, other, all of the above? Holy moly, so many choices then!

Silverado. Cheyenne has the narrow band. Scottsdale and Custom Deluxe typically have no band and displays the stamped steel letters. that dude is nice. I bet its off a truck with a slide in camper (removed when new) and they forgot to include it when they sold the truck.
