67-72 short bed frames

Does anyone know if the short bed frames from 67-72 were the same? I have a 69 and im looking to buy a frame that is already sand blasted and painted. The guy selling it posted it as a 67-72 frame, but is not sure what year it is. He thinks it's a 68 or 69.

Re: 67-72 short bed frames

the 4x4 vs 2wheel drive frames are different, and the 67 frame is slightly different in the fact that since they didn't have power steering it doesn't have the dent in the frame for that, but it can be added with a BFH. beyond that everything should line up properly

Re: 67-72 short bed frames

Hey blackdawn thanks. I'll get more info on it and if it's not a 4x4 or a 67 frame I'll end up buying it. It's going to save me from doing the work and I'll be able to mock up my new parts on it as i go.

no problem, one thing to note though, your vin number is also stamped on the frame. Im not sure out there in NV, but here in california the DMV told my brother that if they had to inspect the truck and found that the vin in the cab didnt match the frame that they would issue him a salvage title since "the frame must have been damaged enough to be replaced". now again thats just what a dmv employee told my brother when he had asked about changing his frame.

The radiator support mounting areas will be slightly different too 67/68 vs 69-72.....but you can make the adjustment by using correct bushings...other obvious differences are coil spring vs leaf....

Re: 67-72 short bed frames

Well now that you mentioned that i just might not buy that frame. Im doing the build in Cali and im in the process of getting black plates and registering it. Well it was a good thought, but I'll just have to man up and do it myself. Thanks for the help.

They did not even look at the frame vin when I took my truck in as it was from Colorado. They only looked at the vin inside the door.

It is a crap shoot. I have had them only look at the cab VIN tag on several occasions, but also had them check the frame and cab VIN a few times too.

Re: 67-72 short bed frames

Ok thanks guys. I've had most of the day to think about it and i changed my mind. Im going to buy it and take my chances with the dmv. If i have to I'll swap everything back over to my original frame of course after i prep and paint.

Re: 67-72 short bed frames

if your current truck cab is registered and you swap out frames...there is no need to go to the DMV, just keep registering the truck. Then when you do make the swap, you continue registering the truck...

Re: 67-72 short bed frames

Re: 67-72 short bed frames

sorry didnt mean to completely scare you off by it, just saying if for some reason you have to get your truck inspected, which there is a slim chance in california for needing to do that. my brother has to have his inspected because on the title they typoed one number on the vin.

Lol no worries buddy. I think I'll get it registered first as it sits now then once that goes through I'll start swapping over to the new frame.
