Roll-on bed liner for tub thoughts
Has anyone done a diy roll on bed liner in their k5 bed and cab floor? How did it turn out? Would you do it again? Any tips and pics would help. Thanks

Re: Roll-on bed liner for tub thoughts
The tub i bought has a diy liner and it sucks. i can peel it up with my finger nail, its very thin. probably not prepped right before it was applied. i wont go that route when i get to that point. cant beat spray ins.

Re: Roll-on bed liner for tub thoughts
I've read great things about Al's Liner...and it's pretty cheap too. I plan to do this to my top once the Blazer is painted.

Re: Roll-on bed liner for tub thoughts
I've used two different types with mixed results. If it will be out of the sun then they work pretty good. UV light made mine curl up and flake off. Neither one stood up to heavy use.

Re: Roll-on bed liner for tub thoughts
Thanks for all the input. I'm stuck between a spray on liner that will be heavy duty and last for years or attempting a roll on diy liner and spend the difference of about $600 on something else.

Re: Roll-on bed liner for tub thoughts
From what I hear, nothing holds up over time like professionally installed Line-x. That's the route I'm going. I don't want to have to re-visit this down the road.

Re: Roll-on bed liner for tub thoughts
line-x dosent have to put on thick either. truck beds are that because of the abuse. blazer tub wont see that, just foot wear and tear. so a thinner application would be less weight and hopefully less money. i have a friend who does it, i'll check with him and see if it would be less.

Re: Roll-on bed liner for tub thoughts
Did you consider buying a complete rubber mat for the floor? Bed liners are almost irreversible and definitely diminish resale value IMO. You can buy a complete set for about $330.

Re: Roll-on bed liner for tub thoughts
The rubber mat that was in my Blazer originally held moisture to the floor. I believe it contributed to the extensive rot I encountered when I took the truck apart for resto. Had to get a whole new tub…

Re: Roll-on bed liner for tub thoughts
I thought about the rubber mats also, but I eventually may want to put a carpet kit in also, so I will have the mats just laying around. The Spray liner can just be covered, I know it's a waste of money considering that's the issue I'm stuck trying to decide. Not too worried about the resale value though because I sold my first blazer 8 years ago and still regret it. Don't think I could ever sell this one.

Re: Roll-on bed liner for tub thoughts
So I scoured the classifieds here on the board for the rubber leveling mats for my blazer...do you mean there are aftermarket ones? Or are you just referring to the front rubber?
Just my opinion, but if you're not going to be mudding the blazer all the time, I'd say carpet is a good choice...could help dampen the sound too. Or, even a coat of Lizard skin rather than rhino liner...just a thought.

Re: Roll-on bed liner for tub thoughts
Wasn't referring to leveling mats as I don't know of any reproductions of those mats which go under carpet or rubber mats. Various vendors sell complete rubber type floor mats for the front and rear of Blazers. LMC's is pn 38-2876 just an an example. I never used them as I used carpeting in mine. Perhaps other folks have or have bought similar flooring kits from other vendors.

Ahh...ok. Makes sense. I didn't know they made rubber for the rear of the blazers. Good to know, Thanks!

Re: Roll-on bed liner for tub thoughts
check out durabak bed liners. i used their texturized liner on my top cause it works on fiberglass as well. rolled on real nice, not a big mess and pretty forgiving. i'm happy with it and a have a feeling it would work great in the bed

Re: Roll-on bed liner for tub thoughts
I tried that Herculiner in the bed of my K30.. Horrible results. Prepped it as best as I could, followed all of their directions, and it still turned out like crap. Peels up with moderate use, faded out fast... Would have been better off just painting it instead, or getting a real bed liner.
I'd say Line-X is your best route.. Yeah it costs more, but it'll last alot longer, hold up better, and if you really want to you can have it sprayed the same color as your blazer.

Re: Roll-on bed liner for tub thoughts
No to beat a dead horse here, but Al's liner is only $164 from mbgmike here on the board (but would recommend just buying the product and spray gun from harbor frieght to save even more $). If you check out their site here, you'll see some pics of a bunch of truck beds and even the inside of jeeps. You can tint this stuff too to match a color. Also, a search on this board brings up a some people who have used it with what I think are great results.

Re: Roll-on bed liner for tub thoughts
I did the Al's liner. I like the fact that it's not as "abrasive" when you touch it. However, it is certainly not as durable as the professionally sprayed on liners.

Re: Roll-on bed liner for tub thoughts
I just sprayed Al's Liner on my top and had great results. Needs to go on in several coats until you get the thickness/texture you want. My tub was rhino lined which has turned out to be kind of a pain when you change body mounts out, seats kinda wobble on the stuff as it breaks down and it is hard to get really clean. Plus it gets ashy over time. IMO just shoot the floor and mask it in a way every thing you might ever want to get at stays accessable leave the wheel wells and sides in paint. Hope this helps. The Al's Liner is a great product for your top though if you go that route, cant speak for the bed but definetly shoot it. I used a standard house hold compressor (smallish) put a shut off on the gun and it worked awesome.

Re: Roll-on bed liner for tub thoughts
I have used "Herculiner" to line the interior & bed of my '74 International Scout II. It worked great! I ended-up brushing versus rolling... better coverage and control in my opinion. Its been on now for about three years and no chips or peeling... but has faded due to UV sun. They say if you do get a chip, you can sand and re-apply, for it will adhere to itself... some apparently don't! Plan on using it for my '72 Blazer build as well... just not there yet!
You can get this almost anywhere... from the auto parts stores.. Oriellys, Autozone, and I think I even saw it at Lowe's the other day. Prices range from $70 to $100 per gallon. If I remember correctly, I used a gallon and a quart to do my Scout interior (floor and up the sidewalls) and I think the blazer is bigger (both width and length). Re: Roll-on bed liner for tub thoughts
I put herculiner in my jeep tub 5 years ago. I sprayed it in with a cheap ($40) gun from HF and used 1 gallong and 1 quart. total cost with gun was $148.00. I took and did the prep 3 times over in 2 days. After 5 years of abuse, I have 2 spots that need touch up. 1 was from a brake cylinder leak that sat for a seekend. Not sure much would have withstood brake fluid. The other is a small gouge from a sharp edge of metal. At any rate the $138 has been worth the investment over 5 years and only needing small touch up. No rust issues, and when it gets dirty inside, I just head to the car wash.
I would do it again, but I might also try monstaliner. They are getting great review in the rockcrawling world.
