Floor pan differences?

Hi everyone, I just picked up a 1978 C-20 and it is in need of some new carpet badly. I was checking around and there is a year break of 73-74, 75-80 and 81-up. I was under the impression that the floor pans were all the same from 73-87. Why the different part numbers for the carpet kits?

If it ain't broke, there is still probably room for improvement.

Maybe, but even LMC shows a difference between 73-79 and 80-up. But they show the replacement floor patches to be the same. I think the loop style would be the way i want to go on this truck. I just wanted to make sure it fit before ordering it.

Re: Floor pan differences?

I don't know that the loop style was ever OE on these trucks. I had to pay extra for it when I ordered my carpet.

There were some differences in the floors around the seatbelts. I put shoulder harnesses from an '87 in my '74, and they didn't fit the floor particularly well.

Re: Floor pan differences?

According to the sales brochures (at http://brochures.slosh.com) the 73-75 trucks used "deep-twist nylon carpeting". I believe that's loop style.

While the 76-up brochures list "cut-pile polyester carpeting".

Re: Floor pan differences?

That would make sense then on the break between 74 and 75 on some carpet catalogs. The seat belt config would explain the break between 80 and 81 maybe. I think I'll give it a shot. If it don't fit, someone on here will get a really good deal on some loop carpet.

I really prefer the loop carpet over the cut pile, maybe it reminds me of the first new car i remember my parents getting. (1964 Impala SS)
