Another..is it worth it??

I've been looking at this online and will probably drive over today and look at it to really see how the frame and body look. It's at a dealership (associated with HOH) for $27k. I'm personally think it looks more like an $18k truck in the pics but I honestly don't know enough (value wise) of the 60 to 66's..Please provide any commits, thanks.

http://www.txhouseofhotrods.com/fs-1964-chevy-suburban/

Here is the description-
Body type: Metal, Engine: ZZ4 Crate V8, Exterior color: Burnt Copper, Transmission: Automatic 700R4, Fuel type: Gasoline, Interior color: Mexican Blankets. This suburban has a camaro front clip with a pro street frame in the rear.ZZ4 crate motor turning 350hp and a 700R4 trans connected to a chevy 10 bolt rear with 3.08 gears. Firestone bags on all 4 corners with two 4 gallon airtanks with Air Ride Pro E digital controls. 18′s up front and 20′s in the rear this beauty lays frame and clears with no problem.

I don't know, I wouldn't let mine go for 18000, try building one. It's 10k just to paint one.

Thanks for the input, thats a great way to look at it!
I guess I'm thinking about this being a dealership and if they priced it correctly.

Cool Re: Another..is it worth it??

I tried to buy that truck a while back and they turned down 23K. Its seems to be a nice truck and like LT1 Burb says try building one. Its the paint and body that kill ya for sure. I spent well above that doing my 64 truck.

After all its only money!!!!!

Re: Another..is it worth it??

I don't have cash but was toying with the idea of trading (or could sell then have cash) my 69 pro touring Camaro..just hard to place values on their 64 vs my 69. I would value my 69 closer to $50k which means they would say $35k. I do feel they could move my 69 off their lot faster then the 64 Burb.
Looks like I will have to wait until tomorrow to go look at it...

Re: Another..is it worth it??

Lucifer knows because he looked to buy it, but in general I don't think you can fairly evaluate a high dollar truck based on one or two photos. It may be cosmetically attractive, but what really matters is the quality of the build. Is the chassis home brewed or Porterbuilt caliber (home engineered or not)? Is the air system cobbled together or a professional level install? Did the person building it know how to weld? I've looked under a lot of shiny street rods with big $ numbers in the window, only to discover chassis, suspension, and axle components stick welded cold just waiting to break off. Or stacks of washers to compensate for misalignments.

A expensive beautiful paint job is a requirement for a high dollar truck, burb, or street rod - but it's the details in the chassis and under the hood that usually determine if it's a $15k value or one worth over $30k or even higher.

The real value in my opinion can only be determined after an actual physical inxpection of the vehicle. And even then some things are hard to see, such as things that may not have been done 'correctly with the body and paint work. I have seen some very shoddy metal and body work covered up with nice shiney paint.

I guess what I'm getting at is it greatly depends on who did the work and what kind of reputation they have for quality work.

In one of the pics Jon posted I can see that the inside trim around the rear windows is missing.

I dont think i would waste the money on it just from looking at the wheel wells they didnt do anything to the chasis from what i can tell. except bag it. but then i am in favor of building my ride vs buying

I beg to differ, it must have a huge notch in it and is tubbed with the wheel wells being raised a foot.

Re: Another..is it worth it??

I am always one to look for details, and just in those photos, you can see that the carpet in the rear on the tubs is cut sloppy and there is overspray on the foot panels in the front. Little things like that usually let you know what kind of detail you can expect to find in the rest of the rig.

Re: Another..is it worth it??

I can't say for sure how many years, but at least a year, because the pics transferred from my old computer. I really think that some one on this site posted a forsale link, and I saved them there...
***** I just looked at the properties of my saved pics of the sub, and the all say tuesday march 17 2009, the only other date is nov 2011 which is when the pics transferred to this computer. checked some different pics and the dates seem right for the save so I am thinking I did save these 3 years ago... which might be some good ammo for talking them down on the price!! ******

Re: Another..is it worth it??

looks like a stain on the rear seat....and a truck with a price tag like that I would not expect to find some basic 6x9 speakers with wires on top of the carpet..
