Wink Re: Vent rebuild question?

Ya mean the gaskets for the "C10 Cowl Vent Outlet Valve Seal Replacement" by yer feet?

I replaced mine ages ago. The replacements are a kind of foam material, they work real good keeping the wind out in the winter time!

I think most of the vendors that sell parts for our trucks have 'em in stock.

p.s. check yer PM's

Re: Vent rebuild question?

I think those are the seals for the vent doors themselves. The description on the Chevy Duty website for the same item states “New rubber seals for the vent flaps in kick panels. Seals out drafts for a more comfortable ride".

And post #47 on the following thread is the only one I’ve seen explaining what it took to replace the vent door seal:

Re: Vent rebuild question?

If you'r talking about the foam seal that is sandwiched between the two pieces of metal that make up the moving part of the door itself, (riveted together) I have never found them.
Some kick vent seal kits have an oval shaped seal that you have to scrape, grind, dig the old seal out of the "channel" made by the two pieces of steel, then glue the new piece in it.....

I personally didn't care for this at all. I figure a few times of opening and closing the vent, will just rip the glue off. Maybe not, but I just didn't like this.

I ordered a sheet of 1/8" foam from here...

http://www.rubbertherightway.com/fla...r-9055-ctg.htm

Then just lay the old seal (still in door) on top, mark it and cut it out.

Now grind off the rivet heads, knock 'em out with a punch/ hammer. Clean up the metal and paint it.

I put mine back together with bolts or screws I got from Fastenal. Think they were 1/2" long Phillips head, flat washer on both sides and a nut. You'll have to punch holes with an awl in the foam when reassembling.

It took longer for the paint to dry than to do everything else, and it had to be far simpler than digging out the old seals.

Might be cheaper too... Buy the smallest sheet of foam and you'll have plenty in case you make a mistake AND some for future projects. The fasteners I think I had to buy in bulk (like 100 or so) but they were still cheaper than buying individually at Home Depot ect, again you'll use them somewhere eventually.
