Re: 72 pie cut hood?

A year or so ago there was a story in Custom Classic Trucks magazine on doing this deal. Someone here might come across with a link for you.

Re: 72 pie cut hood?

I like the angle of the 67-68 hood but I think any more angle than that would look strange but that's just my opinion.

Re: 72 pie cut hood?

ya I do like the 67, 68 hood, but the 72 cut down has the best of both worlds kinda sorta, I think I like it even better than the 67, 68 look,,,,

Re: 72 pie cut hood?

If that's your chopped truck in your avatar I'd say it needs the hood cut to go along with the lowered lid.

Re: 72 pie cut hood?

Search Rokcrln's build threads, he did one. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/member.php?u=17997

Hmmm, I was looking at his project low buck and he extended a 67-68 hood to fit .. maybe thats what I was thinking of.

Re: 72 pie cut hood?

after pie cutting the hood I am going to re-do the headlights and grill, I've left the headlights square because it going to be a pain to convert them back to round but I never have liked them,,,,

Re: 72 pie cut hood?

I just started working on mine today. I got the itch after seeing the Custom Classic Trucks article. I discovered that they left out quite a bit, punks. I'll post picks with more details than CCT when I'm done.

Re: 72 pie cut hood?

I WISH somebody'd stamp out a batch of '69-'72 hoods that were slant nosed like '67-'68's..... my Dad had a standard saying for me when I was little and said "I wish". He'd say "Wish in one hand and ......., see which one gets full first".
I'd sure buy one and bolt it on the Blazer.

Re: 72 pie cut hood?

Ok. I've got all but the final filler sanded and had to set it aside for a while. I cut 1 1/4" out of the front. I'll post more pics soon but here's a before and after.

Re: 72 pie cut hood?

From what I'm seeing there are two different types of pie cuts for these hoods. One takes a little out to lean the nose back(69^) and the other takes a pie cut out to lower the front of the hood and taper it from lower in the front to stock height in the rear.Maybe a combination of the two would be trick.
