Help!!! LOL

Having serious problems with wheel hop. 1969 C-10 lwb ford 9", stock trailing arms, A-body rear springs, stock six cylinder front springs. I have already broke a few axles it wheel hops so bad.

never had much trouble with hop on trailing arms. I would try some adjustable rear shocks.

Motor only:
6.44 1/8 @ 104.13
10.39 1/4 @ 125.83

Nitrous Times:
5.785 1/8 @ 118.65 with a 1.336 60ft
9.168 1/4 @ 142.58 with a 250 shot dead out of the hole!

There are a lot of things that can contribute to wheel hop on a launch, but my first question is what kind and size of tire are you running, and at what pressure?

If you come back saying you have air shocks were gonna slap you silly (lol) Air shocks are notorious for wheel hop. You know that right.... but with the luck others have with the trailing arm suspension,, I'd agree it's gotta be shock or tire like Kevin and Vin are saying.

I would also ask how hard your hiting the tire with power? What kind of 60 and 1/4 mile ET/MPH are we talking about here?

It has regular kyb's on the back. Truck has 295/65-15 mt drag radials and a sbc. It is a mild 421 with steel sportsman heads a mild .500lift solid cam and a th350 trans. I just put this motor in it. But with the old 355 it ran 7.63 and would 60ft 1.60's. I have tried running some 28x10.50-15 slicks and it still hops bad. I am tired of breaking axles.

Make sure there is no bind in the rear suspension.
Check the rear bushings.
Try putting a diferent shock on it.

Does it have a rear aniti roll bar?

No anti roll bar. Nothing seems to be binding. The truck tries to transfer weight but then seems like it just unloads and starts hopping. The truck used to hook in a mud hole! LOL After I lowered it a couple of inches it has been crap ever since.

Did you lower it at the same time you put the new bigger motor in?

Did it have traction problems lowered with the 355?

What did you do to lower it?

I've had traction issues ever since I lowered it. I guess I need to try changing rear springs.

The springs are one of the last things I would change in a wheel-hop-on-launch issue, but feel free to change out what you like.

I would put an adjustable shock on the rear. You will then be able to adjust it to hold the tire down. Right now, it appears that you are not able to control the lighter rear spring, and it is oscillating out of control. The shock is designed to control this characteristic. The heavier springs originally in it resisted being compressed, which helped you some. I hope this helps some. Paul

I agree with the above post on springs, shocks and pinion angle. My first thought was the shocks but if you changed springs and lowered it, springs could possibly be the problem. I would definately start with checking pinion angle. If you didn't adjust pinion angle to compensate for the lowering that could be the majority or even all of your problem and it's a simple cheap fix. Pinion angle can make all the difference in the world on something that hooks and something that spins.
