Well, as I live in the bullhead city/ mohave valley az/ needles, ca area(more referee to by near lake havasu) it gets 118 or so here in summer. As it has been recently.I never usually drive my old truck in the 105-110+ heat but I had to today. First time.and iva gotta say I was extremely tickled it didn't even hesitate to overheat or go above 190 or so for that fact.I even got stuck right in roadwork traffic idling for minutes at a time. Im running a mild 10:1 355 with a 165 thernostat I believe, a 4 row big radiator no fan shroud and a flex fan.first vehicle that has ran this good and cool in the heat between me and my dad.I love my old chevy! Maybe its really not a huge thing but I figured id share! I was almost certain without a shroud it was going to overheat.

Wow thats a feat in itself in that kind of heat for sure! I am in the desert in Calif too and want to get a 4 row radiator as well. Where did you get yours? Best price I have found for my 74 swb is $330 so far.

I get through that area on occasion, like to pass through Lake Havasu. I frequent down in the Phoenix valley area most often (110+).

I drive nothing but classics daily. Never had an overheat issue with any of them but you definately have to make sure everything is working properly. It will test your vehicle for sure. Not much out in the Mohave area if you get stranded, that's a long walk

I just have to rub it in that it will be 85 here today in Show low.

East of you in Tucson it only gets up to around 110 most of the time. My stock 83 C20 454 with larger 3 row aftermarket (Ready Rad) radiator with new Delco fan clutch and Delco water pump stays at 165 with or without A/C on high. I think the stock cooling systems in these old squares is very good regardless of the engine or model. I have learned to stick with OEM parts for best performance. The only time I have overheated one is when the water pump leaked and that was a cheap fix. I do find the the radiators take a beating in the desert heat and you need to be attentive to very small leaks - observe the water level in the overflow tank and/or radiator when cold. With engine mods/bored over/headers, etc. I think that might call for cooling mods.

I wish we could have some of that sunshine and warmth up here....it's still mid 50's and rainy and I need to get some work done outside.

We are having bad wildfires here the last few days. I'm a little nervous about it. 5 years ago our hill burned up. I hope the Firefighters can contain it soon. They lost an AC130 tanker on Sunday. It crashed and all aboard died.

32+32+32 = 96 F + humid
I'm always watching the temp gauge and leave about a truck length between me and the one in front

That's because the frontal area of these trucks are extremely large and flat (catches alot of air) and the radiators are large x huge If you have one that overheats there is a problem.

I run a 502 in mine slightly modified (headers/intake etc...) and tow in the heat without issues, AC on or not. Only time it gets warm is pulling the I-17 hill to Prescott coming out of Phoenix or Camp Verde, but it doesn't overheat.

In July through mid-September we get "monsoon" season in Tucson. Temps are in the 90-100 range all the time, and monsoon means the humidity goes way up, so we get heat AND high humidity - no DRY heat.
It used to be that monsoons meant rain in the afternoon frequently. Now we don't get much monsoon rain at all. This is due to excess use of old Chevy pickups which add too much carbon dioxide to the air and will shortly kill us all and cause the earth to burn up and the ocean level will rise and California will be underwater and all animals will die and crops won't grow and life as we know it will end and Alec Baldwin will finally move to Canada where Barack Obama will be made King of the World... and then an asteroid will crash into the earth and ....

Yeah it's monsoon season again, although I just call it light shower season with an occasional thunderstorm mixed in

Where I'm originally from makes monsoon season here seem like a sprinkle.

I've noticed the humidity has jumped up quite a bit today. Usually 100-110 doesn't feel that bad to me, but today 80 feels a bit sticky and uncomfortable.
