How rare are/is this truck? Reno CL not mine

Again not mine, but I've always had an interest in odd or not typical trucks.
I searched some of the posts and found this was a one-year only?!

I like that it appears to be original/low mileage/four speed/4wd too!
Not usually my cup of tea, but nice to have...

Re: How rare are/is this truck? Reno CL not mine

Standard Cab Dually's? I'm pretty sure they are not just single year, and I have seen several for sale up here in NY. The last one had 70-80k orig miles, was white, no rust and had AC, PW, PDL, TILT, and CC...so it was a fully loaded truck and they dropped the price twice on CL. Think it sold for somewhere in the realm of $3500-4500. West coast you don't really need a 4wd, especially in Reno, and without options...I'm not really banking that he'll end up with $4500 in his pocket, maybe $3000 if it is exactly as he says it is.

If you want, I can go take a look at it for you, but as far as rarity, not at all. They're all over out here, in good shape. That does look like a nice pickup, though.

No rarity in that truck, but in my opinion, two wheel drive single cab duallies are much cooler than the way more common crew cabs.

a single cab dually is not rare.....but an 88-91 single cab square dually is much harder to find......

I dont think there is such thing as a rare square. maybe one is harder to find, but not rare. they made them for too long.

Re: How rare are/is this truck? Reno CL not mine

Considering the 88 was the first year of the NBS trucks, the only way you could get a standard cab "square" body truck was if you bought a 4wd dually or a cab and chassis truck.

I would say that truck is pretty rare.

if you had to make it, its not rare. its custom. thats like me saying my truck is rare because its got an aftermarket interior.

I know they made square body til 91 for the suburbans, blazers, and crew cabs, but i thought that in 88 the single cabs were the new CK design.

Exactly!

Rare is finding a good looking woman that cooks and cleans and lets you do what you want.

I'm just kidding!

...but seriously.

Re: How rare are/is this truck? Reno CL not mine

thats extremely rare. 88 plus regular cab square bodies are very few and far between. mostly only cab and chassi, i have never seen an 88 standard wheelbase. in all my years lol

id like to see the title..

rare and desirable are two different things.

its rare that i crap my pants, its not too often desirable.

Re: How rare are/is this truck? Reno CL not mine

That looks like a solid truck, and doesn't look all beat to crap like most of them I've seen. I haven't seen a 4x4 like that around here in a long time. Even 2wd single cab duallys just don't seem very plentiful anymore, I think they've all been worked to death, maybe they aren't real rare but finding a decent one isn't easy.

1988 they made both styles of single cab dually 4x4 pickups so It is the LAST year for a square body pickup truck. ALL others (square body anyway) that year (88) were cab/chassis, crew, blazers or suburbans.

Might be "rare" for the 1988 model year but we built several million of them in the previous 15 years that were essentially the same....

Yep,pretty rare. Of all those above who have commented that it's not rare, how many '88 regular cab V3500 pickups have you seen in the last 24 years? And Reno sits close to the Sierra Nevada. I think 4wd would come in handy at times.

Enough to last a lifetime.

Remember: we built one a minute, 40+ hours a week, in four assembly plants, 50 weeks a year for over 15 years.

As a result I am of the mindset that there are no rare C/K/R/V trucks.

Re: How rare are/is this truck? Reno CL not mine

basing rarity off of the year seems silly when they made the truck for as long as they did. square bodies are the longest running body style of truck chevy ever made. to pay a premium for a square because someone is claiming it to be rare seems like a waste of money.

Re: How rare are/is this truck? Reno CL not mine

Claiming rarity off of the year is how they do it in the auto industry, however, beings that this was just a truck that made it out of the factory before they re tooled it does not necessarily make it more desirable to have and IMHO doesn't justify a premium price tag. I am sure many years down the road that this would be a more valuable truck then say a 87 single cab dually, and there would be a very small market for it....maybe......if you buy it make sure all the numbers match up and for God's sakes, keep it all stock!

Yep, it snows in Reno, although doesn't hang around too long. Trying to cross the Sierra Nevada mountains though is a whole different ball game they get snow measured in "feet" Won't even let you pass in a 2wd unless you have chains. 4x4's are iffy without chains.

Alot of people excited about this truck? I like the blue on blue combination, but it probably has a sbc though. Not the kind of engine I'd want in a truck like that.

I'd agree its less common. As far as rare squares there are a bunch....no pun intended... gentleman jims. Spirit of 76 beau James to name a few. Regarding this truck tho... I have an 88 square 1 ton reg cab reg frame length. It was a cab chassis truck. Has a dump bed on it now. Gasser 4spd man 4x2 and only 42000 original miles
