Re: **Gas Cap

I got a locking one a few years ago through Classic Parts, had a nice bowtie cover over keyhole and another locking chrome one I picked up somewhere along the way (I only could seem to find nice locking ones)

BUT both of them leaked gas as the tank sloshed back and forth while driving leaving a nice trail of gas down the side of the bed.

My solution was to polish the sh*t out of the cheap $5 ones - not great but its either that or gas all over the side of the truck

my 2 cents...

Re: **Gas Cap

yeah, sucks. I looked on ebay a couple months ago for a decent cap from back in the day and they're going for over $100. The newer ones on the market are crap.

Re: **Gas Cap

Try Classic Industries - they have nice paintable originals for $35.

Re: **Gas Cap

Picked up my last chrome one at the local mom and pop parts house. No leaks and vents fine.

Re: **Gas Cap

I just did a quick search and found nice stainless caps from Brothers, Classic Industries, The Truck Shop, Auto Zone, ORailly's, some listed as ACDelco, all for under $8 bucks. These stainless steel caps can be easily polished to a chrome like finish. Brothers, Classic Industries, Truck Shop also have paintable and locking caps.

Re: **Gas Cap

I'll check to see if these fit when I get home. I have one on a buggy, and have a 69 tank to check it on. It's billet pressed over a steel cap, and does not leak on my buggy.

2/3 of the way down the page,

Re: **Gas Cap

ordered a vented"paintable" from classic for $36.plus frt and as soon as i seen it I liked it and couldnt wait til it was painted..went to put it on truck but wouldnt fit!
The center part that goes inside the tank spout was too large! Called classic's and all they could say is that "that part number is suppose to fit." I say I realize that but I'm telling you it does not! and told him about the center being too large and probably the wrong cap got in the right box but all he could say is it's suppose to fit and gave me authorization to return and offered no more help..First time i've ever ordered from Classic..maybe that's the problem
I already had one of those from oriely's, fits good and vents but I dont like it..It has that warning tag glued to the outside center and dont feel likes it wants to come off..
Oh well guess i'll keep looking
