Need some Ideas for my bed floor
Need some ideas here. Either the dealership, which I have a feeling did or an early owner welded a solid1 piece metal sheet in the bed. I'm guessing its around 1/8 in, maybe quarter in thick. They did a good job and its plenty sturdy, but I really want a wood floor, which it has under the metal, not much wood left though. Ill upload pics later but what do you guys think I should do? I don't want to ruin my bed, its in decent shape. I thought of pulling it off and just replacing with another bed, but I don't want to repaint the truck, I like the old patina'd orange. I'm sure it helps ad needed weight over the axle, but she's gonna be a cruiser, not a work/weekend home depot runner. Open to ideas here. Its not welded all the way around, just every so often in 2in Welds.

Re: Need some Ideas for my bed floor
I'd be in the bed with a cutoff wheel. Just pop those welds loose and pull it out
I'm with you, I like the wood bed trucks.

X2 on the cut off wheel and carefully remove the plate.

Re: Need some Ideas for my bed floor
Yeah, .. a 90 grinder and a couple good cutoff wheels and go to it
That plate has to weigh a pound or two. It might even help with gas mileage! Just be prepared to find the reason why it was covered up to begin with. Maybe you look for your new strips and wood prior to taking out the metal panel? Just a thought.
