Need some A/C advice!

First howdy everyone. Coming back to the forum for the first time in a bit. Sold my 72 C10 a couple of months back and just had my Jeep. Well the Jeep is now sold so i am in the market. Found a couple of 92/94 4.3L W/T's that i am interested in.

However they both have the same problem.

First question. What year did they change to the 134? Both trucks have A/C but both have leaks and issues.

The 92 just had the compressor replaced and they say its good. Just doesnt "blow" like a new one

The 94 has a leak. He said he replaced all the O rings. But apparently still has a leak.

Both are at the same price range, both with 75,000 original miles. I like the 94 better, but worried about how much i would have to sink into the A/C...

How costly can these leaks be? Forgive me i know little to nothing about A/C. My last couple of toys(trucks) did not have A/C. Well this one will be my toy/DD/work truck.....

Re: Need some A/C advice!

1994 was the first year for R134A in the C/K trucks.

Leaks can be very expensive to fix.

Re: Need some A/C advice!

AC work gets very expensive, very fast if you do not have the tools and knowledge to fix it yourself.

This guys is really good at explaining basic car operations. In this one he breaks down the AC system.

The reason I linked it was because I had a bad leak in my 98 Grand Cherokee that couldn't be found by the first mechanic. So I want to another. This guy checked the evaporator and found the leak, and it was bad. The evaporator was tucked up inside the dash on the passenger side and required the steering column to be dropped and almost all of the dash removed. It was a costly repair, around $700.

My point is it could be a simple schrader valve or a hidden expensive evaporator leak. Good luck.

Re: Need some A/C advice!

I went and looked at the 94 yesterday and probably spent less than a minute total. He was a joke. buying junk for pennies, slapping a $25 paint job on them and selling them for a few grand...

Didnt like it when i went tried to take a picture of the vin so i could check it out.

So i go to look at the 92 and it was NICE!! BUT FREAKING SOLD! The guy was signing the paperwork when i got there!

Back to the drawing board, or ebay or craigslist.......
