85 Long bed= Bazinga

We got this truck a while ago. Her name is bazinga. Have been working on it a little. Its a 85 chevy long bed. We are going to turn it into a drag racing truck over time. Right now it has a wore out "fresh rebuild" is what the po said 350. But it is coming out for a big block. I have already droped the rear about 2 inches and just ordered front upper control arms and lower ball joints, pitman arm and upper ball joints. We got new tires on it and once i get the front end redone i will fix/replace the trans. Then the fun comes with a big block. Not sure what size but no less then 454. This is my first big block truck so i may need some info on that part. Here is some pics. She is not a show truck but looks ok in some pics.

The july bunny came today. Apperently it drive a fedex truck....hmmm. Any ways. Her are my control arms and springs. Also got moog ball joints and pitman arm. Sorry no pics of joints or pitman.

I hope to install all the parts on sat. We will see how far that is going to get.

Well got the front end rebuilt. It went VERY smooth. Everything came a part easy. The hardest part of the hole deal was trying to get the bolt for the lower shock mount to go threw both tabs in the control arm. It looks a bit lower now but did not mesure. I did drive it to the gas station and tryed to put gas in it but forgot my wallet so we drove home gasless. It drives amazing. Needs aligned but it is tons better now. The mess was what i scraped off the lower control arms. It was amazing how dirty it was...

Just ordered a set of 0-2 inch lowered shocks and stainless steel breaded hoses for the truck as well as a battery hold down block. Hope it sits level with the new shocks.

I installed the new djm calmax shocks and russle braided break hoses. The po apperently has no idea how to work on trucks. Almost every nut and bolt is stripped or rounded off or compleatly the wrong size bolt. Evey time i work on it i just want to tear it compleatly appart and redo the hole thing. But i reframed and just did what i was there to do. Still sits lower on driver side (with no body in it). It has new springs, shocks and i am not sure what else could be wrong. I will have to measure the fram and see if it is leavel or if it is a body sag problem.

Took the ole gal to the local firestone and they performed the best alignment i have ever seen. The truck drives so good now. I never thought it would drive like this. It drives like a new truck. The steering wheel is perfictly level and the truck drives strait as an arrow. I used to do alignments years ago an cars and trucks and never got a old car or truck this good. I almost had to turn around and buy the tech that did it dinner. With all the new front end stuff and the alignment it drives better then the wifes malbu. Any one in the tyler area that needs alignment work needs to go to firestone. All i can say is WOW

On a side note we did buy a new steering wheel for it as well. I hope to install it in the morning.

Looks great! You may want to trim or replace those bump stops thought.

So the truck still leans an inch to the driver side. I took a bunch of measurmants but still not sure exactly what it can be.

from the body line on pass side it is 36.25''
from the body line on drive side its 35.25'' =1.0 lower on driver

from body line to center of hub cap driver side 22.5''
same on passenger side 23.25'' = .75 lower on driver

driver frame 12.75''
passenger frame 13.25'' = .5 lower driver side.


Any ideas?

How's your air pressure in the tires look? how about cab mount bushings?

They look close. I checked the rad mount bushings and the look great. Have not looked at the cab mounts. The back is exactly the same amount low as the front.
