59 apache Wiper Question
Hey gang,
Rebuilding a 59 Apache. I will be using a 94 Blazer Steering column with the intermitant wiper switch on the turn signal lever and also the Wiper motor and linkages for the 94. I also have the orginal vacume wiper motor (not functional) and linkages from the 59. The original 59 the wipers fold to the center and sweep oposite each other. So the wiper moter turned left right, left right in about a 90 deg sweep.. The 94's sweep together and the motor spins only one direction. Does anyone know how to fabricate linkages to make the new intermitant motor sweep to the center as original on the truck. Or do I need to move the locations of the wiper arms to match the location on the 94. Looking for all suggestions? Thanks, Scott ![]() |

Re: 59 apache Wiper Question
What you really need is a rear wiper motor. You can't really change a front motor to sweep back and forth. Then all you have to fab is the bushing to fit on the shaft and weld it to the original linkage. I'm not sure about the Blazer motors but I used a motor for a 1997 to 2005 Chevy Venture, Olds Sillhouette, or Pontiac Montana van. It has intermittent built in. My two speed wiper switch is wired for either "intermittent" or "on".

Just so I am sure, so your saying use a rear Glass motor and not a wind shield motor?

Re: 59 apache Wiper Question
Those linkage setups look kind of confusing, but if they work then I stand corrected about full circle motors. The rear wiper motor was really easy, though. I only had to make a mount plate and 1 shaft bushing.

Re: 59 apache Wiper Question
Yep, or at least that's what worked for me.

Re: 59 apache Wiper Question
My factory electric wiper motor (out of a GMC) turns in circles. Before I found the factory one I rigged one out of a 62 truck and had to modify the linkage, but they worked fine. With the location or the regulators you are stuck with them parking to the center unless you want to go to a lot of trouble to cut and paste the regulator metal to the center and fiddle with the linkage.

Re: 59 apache Wiper Question
Wow, Awesome Guys, thanks for the quick responses... I will be using 1952ssr's pics and diagram as a guide... However, I will uses the original tranmission and motor as is and weld the "lever arm" to the orig parts, then install the motor and drive arm as space allows. Pics to follow as I progress... Thanks Again!!!!

Ok, next question..... I have the orig transmission links and center pivot installed.... I also have the Wiper Motor mounts welded in... Only thing left is to do the bar tha conncects the circulat motor to the pivot arm....
Question---- How do i know if the motor is located in the store or down position?... I need to make sure so i make the transfer bar the correct length. |
