Amp Clamp
I would like to get a multimeter with an amp clamp. What brand/model would you all suggest? It needs to be rugged, durable, accurate, simple, and made in the U.S. of A.

For the longest time I used a Sears voltmeter/amp clamp. I remember it was around $100. It held up pretty well considering it was meant for home/automotive use and I was using it for work...I'm a maintenance technician.
A while back I found out there are 4 categories of multimeters 1-4. 1 is for like bench testing and small stuff, 2 is for home/automotive use, 3 industrial maintenance, and 4 is what lineman use. The big difference I noticed between the Sears I have and the Fluke I bought for work was the saftey fuses in it. The sears had automotive fuses and the fluke had much bigger industrial type fuses in it.

Fluke is made in china. I refuse to buy one. Where are the sears made?

Fluke is by far one of the best meters out there. I use a OTC meter at work that I bought 20 plus years ago for $450.00 and still using it today I think they are still made in Owatonna MN

Fluke is the way to go, the 88V is the best automotive multi meter out there. Just looked at mine, made in USA.

I'll have to agree on the Fluke.Made in USA doesn't mean much anymore.As long as they do some of the assembly here they can claim it.

We live in a world wide economy nowdays, and with they way lawers have a way of getting around things we have no way of knowing what we are buying. I just go with the best warrantee/gaurantee. Depending on what you need the amp clamp for, I would asume automotive since your in a truck forum. If price is an issue then I don't know. I have a Snapp on amp clamp that hooks up to my Snapp On Vantage and Mmy Modis. Being a mechanic i have these as they are invaluble yo serious mechanics, but it may be too pricey for some.

At work, I have used fluke 87, have an add on amp clamp, most every day, for years and years, have dropped it more than a few times, keeps on working. Have a separate fluke amp clamp, reads ac and dc amps, rugged, that works good, used it about 5 years. Have a greenlee amp clamp, don't use it much, works good too, have had it about 3 years. Just bought a milwaukee multi-meter for my own, with open end amp probe, looks rugged, works good like the others, like the backlight, white numbers on black background. I like good tough accurate meters
