What is correct size of fusible link ?
I'm at the final wiring check on my rebuild and find
the fusible link at positive side of battery is gone. The schematic doesn't show the size to use. The parts store has two, one is 14 gauge and the other is 16 gauge. My truck is a 68.

Man I'm not sure which size it was, but maybe this pic will help. I matched it to my original when i made it. I bought a link of it from Bennett Auto i think, put some connectors and heat shrink on it, put a twist in it and good to go. Don't have truck books with me....

As I understand the function of the link, it is a master fuse for
the whole electrical system , not including the starter. Don't know the engineering behind a piece of wire melting down as opposed to a replaceable buss type fuse so must have an amp rating I guess.  ??

Look through Mark's website at www.madelectrical.com You may find the answer there, he has some tutorials you can look through. He has great products and knows his stuff also. I don't work for him or anything, he and his website have helped out Chevy folks for years.

I checked under my hood: I have a 10" brown 14 gauge wire coming off a bolt on the Positive terminal -- splicing into a 10" red 12 gauge line going to the fender terminal.
I got the fusible link wire from the "Help" section at the local auto parts store. Reason for the extra length is I like having the Positive Terminal inboard and the Negative Terminal outboard.

I understand that the rule is the fusible link should be 2 gauges/sizes smaller that the wire it is attaching to.
