at whits end
im at whits end with this starter installed it no shims like my last starter worked awsome 4 days later starter has slight grind :S so i get a shim kit install 2 shims as per my old boss (great mechanic) tryed starting it started with a slight grind. turned it off started it again huge grind. >
 so i try three shims starts awsome tred a few more times starts awsome then last try GRIND! what am i doing wrong?

I fought this same thing on a blazer. Went through countless shims and starters. I read in a book that with the starter engaged you should be able to bend a paper clip wire and have it fit snug between the teeth of the starter and flywheel. I tried it with no luck. I changed the flywheel and haven't had a problem since.

I would check that flywheel....
The only time that I have every had a new or rebuilt starter start grinding that soon; the flywheel had issues.

Someone left it off at one point you would ne surprised at how much it helps and keeps the starter from flexing

You might need to shim only the outside bolt. That will tilt the starter in and get the teeth closer to the flywheel.

bought and installed a high tourqe start no issues so far.
