NEED help and ideas/options on installing my Derale trans. pan!!!

Hello.
I had swapped my old defective pan for a Derale pan, but I cannot screw the three bolts facing the rear. The bed frame and the cooling ports does not allow me to use my regular/basic tools to screw the bolts. I can't even use a simple wrench either!! Are there joints or some special tools needed that I can use to screw the three bolts from the rear.

Also, what is the torque specs on torquing the screws to the pan, 10#s? 20#s?? I have not tightened the other bolts, just enough where it is snugged so dirt and particles does not enter the pan. Please help, I haven't ran the truck in a few months and I miss cruising in it!!

Hmmmm...I just need to figure out how to torque it to 8-12#s with my torque wrench. Another option I've considered was to cut 1/2" or 1" of the frame where I need to get access to the holes while the truck is on jackstands!

Your torq wrench may not be accurate down in the low numbers, might want to buy an inch/pounds wrench

Wonder it they make a tranny pan gasket with spacers, like the oil pan?
Or, notch it, where you need access to the allen head

you can unbolt your rear mount and jack the back of the trans. up and tighten the bolts.....try that...

...even if I jack up the rear of the transmission, the frame will still be in the way where I need accurate torque when screwing the bolts. I bought me a thinner extension bar at HF; let's see if that works when I get home. If not, I'll have to cut 1/2" of the frame.

if you jack the trans higher it will give you more room to work, as far a torque goes you can fell the other bolts that is torqued the correct way and fell your way through it on the last few that need to be tighten....good luck on your trans pan...

Done. HF extension bar that was thinner worked out for me!! The '68 manual says 8#, but I torqued it to 10# since the internet says 8#-13# and my torque wrench only goes as low as 10#. Also the Moroso gasket was thicker so I'm sure 10# would not hurt it as much, I hope. Let's see if the leak stops here as I haven't filled it up w/ Autozone Dex/Merc trans. oil. I want to see, if the leak is coming elsewhere before putting new fluids.

BTW, I have another Autozone brand Dex/Merc trans. oil, but not enough to fill up the transmission. Will using another brand say 'Autozone' brand itself but Dex/Merc be okay to mix w/ the other Dex/Merc brand???

How about unbolting tranny crossmember and sliding it back to get to your boltts?

I ended up buying a thinner extension bar (1/4" I believe) and it slid right through it. I just had the bolt on the opposite side when screwing it in. I torqued it 10ft#s using a Moroso blue gasket and Derale cooling pan. The Lokar dipstick, I just tightened it enough despite the manual saying 20#s. I was scared that it may crack the shell of the transmission. I'm hopefull that the thick gasket wrapped around the end of the dipstick tube will be sufficient enough to prevent leaks from seeping out.
