85 cab and front clip on a 79 frame

I am currently putting a 85 cab and front clip on a 79 frame, my question is, are the core support locations the same on both the 85 and the 79 frames and if so can I use the 79 bushing for the 85 core support? If I use the 79 bushings on the 85 core support the gap between the door and the fender is narrow at the bottom, like the core support needs to be lifted up. Are the bushings for the 85 core support thicker? I am using poly bushings by DayStar. The cab lined up and mounted fine using the 79 bushings. I also noticed that the body line on the front fenders go down, not sure if they are supposed to go straight with the rest of the body line. Any help is appreciated.

Re: 85 cab and front clip on a 79 frame

You need to use the 79 bushings on the 79 frame. Bushings are specific to the frame not the cab. The core support mounts on the 84 cab and clip we put on a 74 frame had to be moved about 3/4in back and flush with the top of the frame. Ive heard of guys not having to move them but we had to.

X2 on bushing being chassis specific. I used a 79 core support on a 76 3/4 ton frame and an 84 cab with 76 fenders and hood. I did not have to move the core support, but I do hate the cheapo body parts, they required some finessing.

Yes I will have to move the body mounts for the core support too. I didnt think you could use 70`s front clip on a 85 cab or I would have went that route. Having some trouble lining up the hood, it should be a easy fit but it looks like I will have to move the core support to the left about a 1/2 inch. I dont want to do that but how do I check for center? The 79 frame is not bent, that i can tell.

I measured from frame to fender on both sides to center core support with fenders install with all the bolts barley snug, when I was satisfied with the alignment I tightened everything up.
