junkyard haul rare find?

so i went to look at a 72 cheyenne today that my friend found at a wreckers with the possibility of buy it but the floors were pretty bad it was more work than what i want to do

but i did leave with some parts, i got a tailgate band that is missing some letters and i lost the H some where, trim for around the handle, one passenger side bucket seat bracket (unfortunatly the seats are gone) and last but not least the rare find, im no expert so you tell me if i got a rare find, i got the brass gas tank carpet retainers all 12 of them were still in the truck plus i got all 12 screws

from what i understand these are usually mia and the ones on here for sale that iv seen werent complete sets, so i figured maybe it was an uncommon or rare find, for me it is anyways being in canada, nothing special just got a lil excited and thought id share, feel free to mock the silly canadian lol

i plan on going back to salvage some more off this truck when it dries up my socks got a lil wet taking the tailgate band off

Re: junkyard haul rare find?

fenders, box sides in good shape, doors have some surface rust, cab needed rockers, inner and outer cab corners, floors were rotted on both sides by kick panels and on the drivers side floor by the rocker where the carpet trim is, im assuming it needs cab supports and possibly both inners, bed of box was full of thick moss at the front, and the gate was pretty rusty at the bottom

Re: junkyard haul rare find?

Those carpet retainers are a rare find. What the heck? Why would whoever got the seats not want the other bracket? Was it hard to remove? That rear bumper is riding a bit high on the right, but those bumper brackets may still be good. Better hurry back before I beat you to it! (Mapquest says it's only 27hrs 20 min).

Oh yeah...hahaha,silly Canadian

Re: junkyard haul rare find?

lol only 27 hours, im more concerned right now that he'll squash it before i get to it in time thats why i got the pieces i did, i went unprepared since i jut went to look at the truck i was lucky i had a universal screwdriver in my truck

i thought the same thing on the seat bracket, the funny thing is it wasnt even bolted to the floor it was just laying there, why they would take one bracket and take the other off and leave it is beyond me, i looked in the box, under, and around and didnt find it, i think the seats were removed and the truck was moved

and yea the bumper is a lil high on the pass side and that was on the top of the list of parts to go back for was the bumper bracket, sadly the bumper has spots is rusting through so it cant be saved, also pln to get some smaller items from it

Re: junkyard haul rare find?

Those aren't for the seat, they are for the support brace that goes under the floor for the bucket seats. That is also a rare bracket... but hard to get off without pulling the cab.

Re: junkyard haul rare find?

The phillips screws in the floor pan are plugging the factory holes for a bench seat...they were put there during assembly of the truck.

Re: junkyard haul rare find?

i did not know that, glad you told me since i plan on getting this part as well, but i was going to see if he'd let me cut out that section since i wasnt sure if they were welded in or not

anyone have some tips for getting it out without taking the cab off if he wont let me cut the floor?

Re: junkyard haul rare find?

I think it's real weird that that truck has a regular instrument panel without gauges. Just think a cheyenne, buckets seats, rear sport bumper.. and no gauges? Maybe someone swapped it.

I thought that was to help hold the floor brace for the buckets? I think mine has them in the center of the truck toward the inner seat brackets, where a bench bracket would not have been?

yea it is weird, i wish the glovebo door wasnt missing i also looked for that, i was curious about the gauges too and if it had tilt i was assuming it did since the column is gone

however if someone did swap the cluster out someone else put in after market gauges under the dash, another odd note aside from the rear sport bumper, buckets, full trim on the endgate etc this truck did not come with upper trim i thought that was odd, it also has the rear cargo lamp and no a/c as you can see in the pics

It isn't as weird as you'd think to not have the upper trim. I had a 71 Cheyenne with a 402 big block/th400/AC and it was all one color with only the lower trim.

One thing is for sure, it seems like every truck I get my hands on has been messed with by someone. So it may have been a cloned up high option truck that they did back in the 80's or something. Those carpet tabs that were there would say otherwise but who knows. One of my trucks "seemed" all original, but upon dissasembly it ended up having a 68 50th anniversary cab, and a reprinted SPID that looked SUPER original, but had a few minor details wrong.

Re: junkyard haul rare find?

ya i guess a guy never really knows eh unless its documented, doesnt help that the glove box door is missing, but they did come optioned weird like JQ-72's 72 cheyenne super short box, full trim outside and zero options inside

heres a pic of the engine bay

My 69 is a CST with buckets and A/C., but no gauges. It also didn't have power brakes. Part of the deal when I bought it was that the dealer add the brakes. The gauges were a $10.80 option which may have been overlooked when the dealer ordered the truck. I later added a 3 gauge pod as in the picture in post 9. No upper trim either... truck's a solid color.

Re: junkyard haul rare find?

Only Cheyenne Supers had upper trim and lower trim,no matter what paint style it had. Cheyennes came with wood grain lower trim and only had upper if it had deluxe two-tone. Those below eyeline mirrors should be stainless on a Cheyenne. I always thought full gauges was part of the Cheyenne pkg,but recently found that wasn't true (I think). Buckets were available in trucks other than Cheyenne and Super.

Re: junkyard haul rare find?

Sounds like you had fun Michael If you go back can you grab the drivers side seat belt holder for me or if you have to take the whole thing with the seatbelt. The one in my truck is cracked and flops out the door everytime I get out
of the truck. The rear sport bumper is good find because you can get it rechromed and the steel is 100 times better than the repops they sell now.

The bucket seat brace is welded to the bottom of the floor pan. There is one long brace running across the bottom of the cab, and then a couple of rear small braces. Trevor
