SWB BBC Sierra Grandes?

These are really rare. Just how rare would be a question I'd love to know the answer to. Who has one or knows someone who does? How many have you seen? This thread is here to answer those questions. So,anyone who knows anything about then, here's the place to post about it.
BTW,I do know of one member with one and that's all. I think I've only ever known of maybe 2 or 3 others over all he years I've been into these trucks. No doubt, these are rare collector vehicles.

I saw one come up on ebay (orange one) that I believe dantip posted? Some debate on whether it was true or not but consensus was that it was the real deal I believe....but yes....VERY rare from what I've run across although you've been around these for a lot longer than I have...

I know CSM (cheyenne super man Gary Terry) has made several GREAT looking clones that you can't tell the difference except they are TOO nice to be factory (shiny paint on pulleys, polished a/c bits, etc) and he's gotten upwards of 60K for some of his clones...

Only way to be 99.9% sure would be to have the original build sheet, spid, and protecto plate, and a matching vin number on the swb frame because even the spid's can be reproduced and "aged" to look 100% original...and vin plates are also reproduced...

they should have had vin #'s like the cars did so you could tell more about the factory equiptment and colors ect.

Re: SWB BBC Sierra Grandes?

Frank, are you another one of my son's? I'm not sure how many trucks I've had. I feel like not that many, and I tend to hang on to them a while, but it still adds up. I've bought some just to fix up and sell, too. Then there are ones I bought just for parts. I've always had at least one and usually a few.

Thanks for the link. There's one, possibly. We have a member with a bonafide example. He should be coming along before long. I started this thread because were wandering how rare his truck is. It's been discussed before, but we can't come up with the old post(s). I'm not sure there was any conclusion as to how many. I don't think we'll ever know that. I'll just say they are rare.

The big blocks have a higher weight rating shown on the door jamb. That's the best tell tale. Can't recall the number. Remember,I'm old and feeble.

Re: SWB BBC Sierra Grandes?

Here ya go. Bought this one for my brother a while back. I have the Protecto plate along with the spid. We believe this to be one of one due to the special paint (PPG 50700 Chevelle Black Cherry). I personally spoke with the salesman that ordered this truck new (Pat Mauldin, Tom Nehl GMC in Jacksonville. Pat is the Sr VP now) and he told me it was the only one he knew of painted that color in 1970. Charlie Hughes (the org owner) was a good friend of Pat's so we know the whole history of this one. Note that this one has both the Z17 and Z84 options along with the 396, a/c, buckets, etc.
We started the frame off resto last Friday and hope to be done by Christmas. Should be a very special truck when we are finished.

It does give the impression of a 4x4 with those tires and cab lights! It would have to be as rare as one of those "corvette option" trucks if it was a big block swb 4x4... about 5-6 years before the factory made one!

Those are heat relief vents in the hood, they were hauling heavy horse trailers all over the place. Goes with the saddle gas tank mounted in the bed. This thing lived a hard life, glad we can give it a second go-round.

I thought it would have the origianl puck style roof lights, looks like some aftermarket version some one stuck on there. Where did you get the paint code from?

IMO,this is a case where if it was a correct restoration the truck would be worth the price...or more. You can build a personalized or custom truck appealing enough to ask top money, but a truck like this is a case where keeping it factory correct/original "does" matter. No,it's not a Camaro. It's a GMC Sierra Grande SWB BBC,which is rarer, more valuable, and collectable than most Camaros.

That's a nice one but it does have the wrong year buckets in it of course it looks nicely done from what I see in my phone pics and a csm restoration of a non original super/grande brings 45-60k so this is reasonably priced compared to that
