HELP! Do I have the wrong transmission crossmember?

I'm wondering if I have the wrong transmission crossmember for my '69 C20 TH350, 2WD. I'm not that familiar with the automatic transmission cross members. I've seen a few pictures and not really sure. I just installed the driver's side header (Doug's D371Y headers), and the collector comes out right into the transmission crossmember. You can see this in the 3rd & 4th pictures. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks. Can you explain why; or what it is from so I know? Will the stock one provide the room I need for the Doug's Headers? Maybe I need an aftermarket one?

That looks like it is a 73 and later crossmember

You definitely have the wrong one Dan. Here's a link to a thread you already subscribed to. The picture of the one painted red is what you need.

One of these may still be for sale.

I also saw a post where teeitup (Randy) states that he has a bunch of them.

Here's a not so good picture of mine. It also shows placement, but I have a TH400. The TH350 may use other mounting holes.

Re: HELP! Do I have the wrong transmission crossmember?

Thanks Jim. Now that I know I have the wrong X-member, I'm wondering what it's from. It almost looks like the PO cut off the upper frame supports, and just left the bottom portion. With that in mind, I'm concerned that the stock X-member will present the same exhaust problem that I have now with my Doug's Headers. As you can see in the 3rd picture, the header collector runs right into the X-member. I would like to feel comfortable that the stock X-member will work with the headers.

Re: HELP! Do I have the wrong transmission crossmember?

looks like the '68 up version according to this thread.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=526226

The only ones I have seen in person were the flatter ones if that makes any sense?!? I have owned three and they all looked the same. Not like the one pic'd.

EDIT: Can someone explain why some crossmembers have the additional frame brackets to the top frame rail? I originally asked if those you linked to were for stick shift trucks... then rememberd they didn't use these. But, the pictures in your link do look like the bottom portion of those I've posted.

There are some good cross section pics of auto crossmembers in this thread.

Re: HELP! Do I have the wrong transmission crossmember?

The upper extensions were original on all automatics but they get removed over time by people who dont want to fight them upon re-install, thats the case I have seen anyway. They tie the crossmember to the upper side of the frame rail for extra strength. I noticed in the link from lockdoc that one has the exhaust clearance humps and one does not like the link I posted. Too many strange differences and hard to determine if they are 73+ or just a wacky 67-72 difference. I personally have an aftermarket trans xmember because my truck was a 3ott and was not equipped with an auto x member.
