624 heads

Hey guys just got a real quick question doing a top end rebuild on my 350...i bought that used comp .454/268 Cam off my buddy with lifters(yes there marked) i pulled the heads off my truck tonight and after i cleaned them up at my buddies we found out they are the 624's he was telling me that they are bad heads and that i should get like 202's or something....well the thing is im really tight on money as i just got my self a 4 week old black lab puppy.....i am going to get these heads rebuilt.....comp springs and 3 angle valve job...and painted black. is there anything else you would suggest me doing to them while there in?.............Besides tieing a rope on them and using them as a anchor

Re: 624 heads

There is two different heads. 458624 have 1.94/1.50 valves and 76cc. Then there is 462624 which can be 1.94/1.50 or 2.02/1.60 valves with 76cc. Either way you shouldnt have a problem with them.

Re: 624 heads

I've used the infamous 462624 heads plenty of times, in various trucks and over many years.

Guess what - not one ever cracked.

They may not be the best choice for a hotrod, but for normal usage they are fine.

624246's will, just like any other cylinder head, develop web cracks if overheated, run dry, improperly torqued, etc...

The people who perpetuate this myth are into high performance applications - or just like to sound like they are.
