gas tank removal help

hey i have a 1980 gmc that im replacing the tank in, im just wondering can i disconnect the fuel lines, fuel gauge wire etc while the tank is still in place or do i have to drop it down before i can reach them?

Ditto what rs72z says.

Just scrapped an unused dual tank last week - and was concerned about hose and wire lengths being long enough to disco on the ground. I needn't have worried, there is plenty of slack.

Actually I lowered it onto a milk crate but that might not even have been necessary.

yea im just ging to put a iece of 4x4 on my floor jack and lower it down a bit and unhook every thing, theres still some fuel in it
