Engine advice - opinions

I need a little advice/input. I currently have a rebuilt 250 inline 6 paired with a turbo 350. I have been presented with a really good opportunity to replace said engine with either a 5.3/4L60-E or 4.8/4L60-E. Has anyone done the switch that would recommend it or should I just leave it as it is. Also what could I expect to sale the 250/350 for - its was rebuilt in Mar 2011 and runs extremely well - has power steering and HEI. Thanks

My 2 cents... I haven't done the swap but my Suburban with the 5.3 runs WAY better than the buddies 4.8.

Man those 5.3s are awesome. They are ls design if I'm not mistaking. They sound smooth and tough. My buddy has it in an 05 sierra and with the hypertech programmer that truck really runs. He has dual glasspacks and you could never tell that they are, sounds like a flowmaster setup. No cracking and popping.

If it runs extremely well why replace it? The inline 6 is a very good design. Venture to guess it will out last the other offerings mentioned.

Re: Engine advice - opinions

It does run well - they are having to pull the engine to replace the rear main seal - that's what brought all of this up. It's under warranty- so it's not costing me anything, but thought it might be a could time to swap. It I don't do the switch, I am thinking about swapping to a 700r - how would that be paired with the 250?

Re: Engine advice - opinions

Scott if you look at the power you engine makes in comparision to a 350 v/8 they are pretty close.
as you know i have a 350 with a 700r4 in my 68 and i love it, It has a lower 1st gear and will pull off very well and when i'm on the interstate at 70 mph its turning 2001 rpms. and thats with a 3:73 rear end.
One of the things you will have to deal with is the TV cable and mating it to your carb. linkage with the 700 trans.
Maybe some one has already done it on here.
anyway good luck with what you decide to do.
