RINC's 54 Chevy 3100

Well now !

Took on another project. I sold my VW bus an went in search of a older Chevy than my 72 K-20. I buddy of mine sent me a link from Craigslist. The truck didnt look to bad in the couple pics. I called the guy an today went to have a look. Wow ! Awesone patina. Only a couple rust holes in the front fenders. One fender has a small dent. The wood in the bed is complete. The wood shows its age but I think a small amount of sanding an sealer the wood will last a long time.

Inside the seat is not cut up. The dash seems cut up in the center portion. I need to search pics on here to see how complete it is. The headliner is sagging a bit. Need to study to see if its correct an also the door panels too.

An now for the after dark, batteries in real camera dead, crappy cell phone pics !

Re: RINC's 54 Chevy 3100

Plans are new wide white tyres. A good cleaning. Add gas an get the 6cyl running. Gonna try an get my body shop friend to shine up the paint.

I am gonna lower it bit with a dropped I-beam an rear leaf springs. Trying to keep it a low cost simple cruiser. Man I am happy I jumped on this one.

I'll get at the tyres an start the clean-up in the morn. More an better daylight pics will be coming also.

Re: RINC's 54 Chevy 3100

Thx Dino !

So .... I cant go to sleep. I keep going out to look at the truck. There is a sickly sweet smell in the cab. It has sat for a couple years so may have had something die in there.

On a whim I opened the gas cap. Similar smell. I could have a gas leak.

Add it to the top of the to-do list to find out what it is !

Those bias-ply wide whites are shot ! I have been on the phone calling around time to find some. No luck so far. I may get black walls or call Coker.

The rims an caps I thinking of keeping.

Nice find, it looks great. Doesn't look like it will take much to get it on the road.

Re: RINC's 54 Chevy 3100

So this has been sitting a week. We checked into why the carb was getting no fuel. Fuel is coming out of the line from the tank to the pump. No fuel after the pump so ......

BAM ! Aint this new pump purdy ?

Pump came in late yesterday. My Dad got fittings for it today. I'll get it in tomorow.

We found the number on the block. It's 55-57 261cid. My Dad found the guy I got the pump from. He mostly deals in old 6cyl stuff. I'll look him up later as he sells a dual carb intake and an exhaust to go with it.

Re: RINC's 54 Chevy 3100

We got a break in the heat so I got outside to finger out why I am not getting fuel to the pump.

Well I looked around an its gotta be the tank. So gonna pull it an get it cleaned. I may go with a rear saddle tank. Not sure which at this time.

I sure need a shop vac to get that crud out of there.

Re: RINC's 54 Chevy 3100

Today I ordered front an rear springs from Posies.

At So-Cal Speed shop I bought window rubber an felt for both doors. Hood hinges. Door latches. A saddle tank an hardware.

Ordered wide whites from Coker tyre. WOW ! They were pricey. Hopefully they will last a few years !

Got to the shop to drop off parts. Half the truck was rubbed down. Man this thang is gonna look GOOD !

Very close in colors. The 72 is an orange an white but was resprayed in the blue. Then months after buying the 72 I found the 54 on craigslist. Maybe deep inside I like baby blue

Re: RINC's 54 Chevy 3100

So now my buddy is gonna paint detail the letters on the tailgate, the emblem on the hood an the letters on the grille.

I need to still get interior stuff, smaller steering wheel. Maybe a new seat.

Got the brake lining bonded to the old shoe cores today. Should have them matched to the turned drums tomorow.

New fuel tank an lines still need to be installed.

New shocks measured.

Oh my ! I wanna cruise this bad boy !
