Let's talk about wind noise

After getting my truck back on the road, I've become hyper-sensitive to the various noises it makes when I drive. I'm always waiting for something to go wrong (like when the alignment shop didn't tighten my wheel!!).

As I drive up to 45 or 50 mph, the passenger side window makes a pretty loud whistling/blowing noise. Obviously, this is a 45 year old truck, and it is going to make some noise, but I'm trying to figure out what is normal for a vehicle with new weatherstrip. Ideally, I'd like to eliminate the whistle, but I don't know if that is too much to ask.

What do you guys think? I drove around a lot of years with dry-rotted worn out weatherstrip, so I know how loud it can be!

Use masking tape on several areas of the window at once, drive around if it has stopped remove them one at a time until you find the culprit and see if you can adjust the seal or window...or dr seal.

That's a good plan, but the fact remains our trucks are about as aerodynamic as a brick. Good luck.

did you replace the door rubber,window channels and the fuzzies? and if you replaced the fuzzies does your door glass go all the way up into the channel?

i have the problem like i've seen listed here before that the reproduction fuzzies are indeed thicker and won't allow the door glass to go all the way up into the channel.

I've got new door rubber, window rubber, vent window rubber, new sound deadening added on floors and doors, as well as carpet pad, carpet and everything else.....and it will ALWAYS have wind noise.

We had a really weird air leak in the beginning, but it wasn't actually wind INTO the cab, but air evacuating out the back. My rear window bead was cut a little short, and there was a 1/4" gap in the center of the rear gasket. It made a weird sucking whistle when you drove windows open.

I had a lot of wind noise coming in around the top of my doors but I fixed it with a sheet of paper and a dead blow hammer. Where you suspect the air leak put the paper between the seal and the door jam with the door closed and pull on it. Where there is little or no resistance to the paper, hit the inside of the seal flange with the hammer until you have uniform resistance to the paper all the way around the door. Worked for me.

I just did the channel, fuzzies and weatherstripping. Also dynamatted/dynalinered the floor, got a huge difference!

easiest solution... turn the radio up!!

I agree with the areodynamic as a brick comment, most of the time when I drive to the yard it is against the wind, and you can feel it buffeting and holding the truck back...

when I drove my 60 series in from p.burg it was against the wind, and It got me thinking about people using these for over the road for 10 years in the 60's...

My truck has new weatherstrip, fuzzies, etc. all around. It is also heavily sound deadened, insulated and carpeted. I'm sure that there will always be noise, the question is... how much?

I'm playing around with the masking tape to see if I can narrow it down.
