I am needing a new power steering hose (high pressure) for my 71 c10 with a saginaw ps pump. So when I went to the parts house they ask me did I need one for a male pressure port or female pressure port? He said they come in male/male or male/female I am not sure which one I need (newb) can you guys help?...Thanks

Re: Power steering hose?
You could have either one. I sell auto parts, (30 years now) and some things you just don't know until you take the old one off. Yank it off, take it in with you and make it a one trip deal. I just checked my sales history and the female port seems the more common one and it comes with an adapter. Hope this helps.

Re: Power steering hose?
A quick look at the back side of the pump should let you know what you have.
The male end will have exposed threads on the side before it screws into the valve on the back of the pump. The female end will be a nut type fitting that screws over a male fitting coming out of the valve in the pump. It works better if you take a 1 inch wrench to hold the valve/fitting on the back of the pump and turn the other fitting. I've got a wrench that I cut down 40 years ago to do just that. One of those modified tools that saved me a lot of time and made me a lot of money in the process. \ |
