HELP! I need Correct Custom Windshield Weatherstip

Hey guys -

Trust me, I searched the forums, but couldn't find a source and part number for the CORRECT windshield rubber for a '70 GMC with custom trim. The windshield has the wide stainless moldings that insert into the rubber gasket.

We ordered one from LMC Trucks specifically for the 1970 GMC Custom. The part number was 38-5912, and clearly listed in the catalog for this truck. The windshield installer looked at it today and said it wouldn't work (after he had removed the old windshield). It had the slot for the trim, but it was 1/8" too shallow, and didn't have the "L" channel near the bottom. I talked to a lady at LMC Trucks who had absolutely NO CLUE about what I was talking about. She said it is either the 38-5912 or 38-5910. The 38-5910 has a slot that is only 3/8" deep. She suggested that I just replace it with the Standard windshield weatherstripping. Nice...

I have attached a couple of photos showing measurements for the stainless trim as well as a photo of my old windshield rubber.

If a Vendor, or someone who has solved this problem in the past could point me in the right direction, I would REALLY appreciate it.

Thanks!

Precision only fits.Last year when I ordered mine I had forgot everyone told me to get Precision that that is the only one that will work, long story short. One girl there said she would have someone from R&D to get with me,they still haven't called. She told me the same thing also.I've thrown 3 rubbers away that came from them also.
Call and ask for reinstall fee and money back for rubber like I did.But keep the bill the glass guy give you.

I would check with GMC Pauls. Got the one for my 72 and it worked great. I'm sure he must have one for the 70.

69/70 is the one you need. 71/72 went to a trim that has a shorter leg on the back.

PRECISION brand ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: HELP! I need Correct Custom Windshield Weatherstip

Definitely use Precision brand. I just installed mine yesterday and so far so good. I used the standard rubber. I removed the deluxe rubber and trim and still have it, which are in excellent shape. I just wanted the standard trim for my look. I'll probably post the deluxe rubber and trim on the classifieds. Someone might be interested.

Re: HELP! I need Correct Custom Windshield Weatherstip

Thanks for everyone's help. We ordered the weatherstrip from Precision today. It was almost double the price of the one we got from LMC. Maybe it will be worth the price. I'll let you know how it goes.
