Re: Engine swap
i am not a expert on the s-10 frames, but i have heard that the newer round body frames are better to use than the older square bodies frames, a old friend of mine is building a 54 chevy five window pickup using a 90's round body frame , so far its looking good....and i dont think he had to do a lot of changing things around...hope this helps a little....and tell your son congrats. on his build...and have fun with it....

Re: Engine swap
1987 and older S10 V6 engine was a 2.8l while 1988 and newer got the 4.3 V6 which is a 90 degree block just like a first gen SBC. The difference is in the motor mounts. It is easier and preferrable to use the 1988 up chassis for V8 swaps.
