Proof that you can clean anything!

These were some of the ugliest parts on my truck... rusted and rotted and caked in 40 years of road grime. I wasn't able to find replacement bump stops, so I figured hey, it's only rubber. How hard can it be?

It was actually quite a bit of work, had to soak them overnight in SuperClean and then scrub them for 30 mins in the parts cleaner, which is more work than rubber stops deserve. But they turned out so nice I had to share :-)

Great looking parts. That's true restoration,like what people had to do before there were catalogs full of bolt-on parts. Reconditioning is shrugs upon these days as not cost effective,compared to buying replacement parts. I say BAH! It's a hobby. If you're looking for ways to spend less time with it you probably should look for another hobby. At least the same is true with girlfriends.

The biggest thing I've run into is the crappy quality of reproduction parts. I don't remember it being that bad when I did my Camaro, but the truck stuff is by and large functional... but not correct.

Even simple things like the console plate. It's stamped with curved edges where the ashtray sits and where the seatbelts go, but the repop is just a laser-cut piece of metal, with a different finish.

On the other hand my '69 Pontiac 2+2 everything had to be reconditioned or made. Other than engine parts (which are shared with the Impala SS) there's almost nothing beyond radio knobs available (because those fit the GTO).

Those cleaned up great. I have also found that my sandblast cabinet cleans up rubber parts pretty good. I even cleaned up a rubber/plastic mirror mounting cover in it. Worked great...

SuperClean is great stuff, I've found it to be cheapest at Wal-Mart. Works great on heavy grease, just let it soak for a while. Not good for aluminum though.

Yep... it also took the clearcoat (or at least the shine) off my floor. And that's at about 1:4 strength! Great stuff, better stock up before it gets banned :-)

Those turned out awesome. I'm glad you posted them cause pics like that keep me motivated when I'm covered with grease/dirt and busting my knuckles.

I know how you feel... I'm just nearing the end of dealing with grease and grime and about to start putting things back together.
