any mods have to be made for the earlier wheels to work on the newer columns?

I had a problem getting the horn to work consistently so I ran the horn wire to a switch next to the dimmer switch on the floor. The horn is now foot operated. I really think my horn issue was more the column than the early wheel and ring.

The floor switch is a simple "normally open" momentary switch from Radio Shack, works great.
