Project Help!!

Hey guys,

I am brand new to the forum and I love the stuff I am seeing. I have been kicking this idea around for awhile and I need some help. I had the brain storm/fart for the following. Here is my vision.......Anywhere from a 1947-1950 3600 LWB converted to a 4x4, 4bt or 6bt diesel, and the addition of a modified extended cab. Not a big extended cab, just big enough to get a bench seat from a 1/2 to pickup. Am I crazy or is this doable? I am needing help from all of your building expertise on if I would need to put it on a new frame, what chassis to use to convert to 4x4, transmission, rearend, etc. I dont want a "muddin" truck. I just thought this would be a cool idea. As much as a new truck costs now days, this would be possibly more economical and plus I could drive it untill the body rusts off! To get an idea what I'm going for look for N2BOOSTs project thread "1950 Chevy 3/4T 4x4... new member". No exactly just like his, but that would be what I would like for it to start like. That is a sweet truck, but not quite what I had in mind. Same vein, just a little different. Thanks for the post though!

I am not ambitious enough to look for it but there is a yellow TF with tailfins that the owner extended the cab and doors about 6". I think there was a post about this a few years ago, try doing an advanced search. It basically involves getting two cabs and using parts from both. What would be cool would be to use a big window cab for the back and standard for the splice section. If you are wanting to do a crew cab extension, there have been a couple of thread on that too.

I have found a few modified "extended cabs" and I like some better than others. I uploaded a couple that I have found. The 1950 that is still pretty rough is to get an idea of what it may look like. I think if I could meet somewhere in the middle of the 2, it would look pretty sharp. Let me know what you think.

What you are asking us to do is design your truck for you. Is anything possible, YES, just takes work and imagination. And be prepared to fail and redo the somethings. So grab a late 1970 4X4 or S10 4x4 and use that chassis and extend the cab.

Big Bertha just started a thread on his crew cab extension, it will give you some good insight into what you are up against. Takes mad fabrication skills and I think he had to use 3 truck and 1 panel for donors to get all the pieces he needed.

OrrieG is correct. I am the one who is building Big Bertha and it is not for the faint at heart. It take lots of time, skills and trial and error. Don't forget the $ part of it. I know what I have in mine and it was not cheap. Think it through and check out my build thread. If you have any question shoot me a PM and we can chat about it.
