I love that... everyone has 'Corvette" heads. And no one wants to talk about the lame 265HP 350's or the 210HP TBI motors that were mainstream mid-70's to 80's corvettes.

I had good luck with that cam , Vortec heads and a 4 valve relief flat top . Is this carburated or TBI ?

Re: chevy 350 piston advice

"Corvette heads" means nothing. They are nothing special especially if they are alum heads from the 80's. Its not going to perform well because like everything else from the smog era they sucked.

Re: chevy 350 piston advice

Any more it doesn't make sence to use factory heads for even a mild sbc build. You can buy Egine Quest Heads for around $500-600 complete for just about any sbc build ya want. They are cast by the same company that use to cast RHS heads. They use the same molds as RHS did before they dropped their Iron heads. For the price you will spend on machine work on a set of vortecs you can get brand new heads. Plus if your combo. is remotly accurate they will out proform the vortecs 2 fold. For a mild 350 build get something like the 170's or 185's with a decent hydraulic cam. On a 355 with 9-10 to 1 you can get a mild mannered 375-400hp.

If your buddy is set on aluminium heads, you can get Patriots complete for just over $800. IMO some of best bang for your buck heads out there. A flat top 355 with a good set of patriot 185's with a Hydraulic roller and you can get 420-430hp and still be rather street friendly.

One thing to not over look if your building even a mild motor is rods. Spend some moeny on rod bolts or even a new set of rods. Scat SIR rods aren't that expensive and are pretty d*mn good rods.

Re: chevy 350 piston advice

I wouldnt use dished pistons on anything unless it was being forced inducted like a blower , turbo or perhaps larg amounts of NOS.
And if your going to be running a decent aluminuim head take advantage of the heat disapation and abilty to run higher compression on pump gas without pinging and go atleast flat tops or even a speed pro with a slight dome.
