Frame question?

I have the opritunity to buy a 72 Jimmy. It's a 4x4 and was wondering, can the front cross member and suspension from a 73 and up two wheel drive be bolted on to the Jimmy frame like the two wheel drive turck frames. The Jimmy is nice and needs to be put back together, but I want a two wheel drive and not a four wheel drive. If not how much difference is there between the frame for the Jimmy verses a two wheel drive short bed truck frame of the same year?

I guess what I am asking is, can I put a two wheel drive cross member on the stock Jimmy frame and make it two wheel drive. Or would it be easier to put the Jimmy body on a two wheel drive truck frame??

Any input? thank you.

Re: Frame question?

I think I remember a post where that was done and a few holes had to be drilled. 4wd crossmember removed by bolts or removing rivets (can't remember). Spring shackles would need to be removed also. Look to see where the shocks attach if they are the same or have provisions on the blazer frame. That's all I can think of.

Re: Frame question?

Turns out the Jimmy was going to be way more work than I am willing to do. Thanks for the input anyway.

Re: Frame question?

the 73 up 2wd front will bolt right in with only a few holes needing to be drilled. you can even leave the rear leaf spring by doing a flip kit to keep the work and cost down. the hardest part is removing the rivets and 4wd parts. i have a 4wd frame that has been converted with an 84 front end.

Re: Frame question?

truck frames are longer and dont have the same body monts as blazers. you would need to shorten it in the middle and transfer your mounts.
