Project "Do work son!"

So...I picked this truck up on a trade. I traded a 16 ft. trailer that's been sitting for a few years for it. The plan was to trade it or sell it for cash to put into my 71 Torino project. Well.....my my wife said that she loved it so...I'll be building it. Here are the plans(as of now):

1. 383 stroker
2. Auto or Standard(not sure yet). I want an old school rock crusher.
3. Simple body mods(shaved drip rail, ac delete, gas filler delete and a few others)
4. Suspension. we're going to drop it. not much though.

Nothing to extreme.

Here are a few pics. Enjoy. Comments always welcome.

Re: Project "Do work son!"

Thanks guys. I want to shoot for a year start to finsih(gonna be tough). As for the drip rail...it's just a haven for rust. Plus it looks like a freaking wing if you look at it down the side.

Almost forgot...starting filling the seam on the roof. I don't like the look of it when painted, so I'm going to fill it in.

Re: Project "Do work son!"

I got the block for the start of the 383 build. Bare bones 350 4 bolt main. It had a Pete Jackson gear drive in it. I'm going to have it checked out at the machine shop tomorrow along with the block.

I met the guys from Fast N' Loud the other day at their shop. That's Richard, Aaron(arse) and the fat guy in the blue shirt is me. Pretty cool guys

Doing a great job! I think that is a truck that I almost bought in Denton. I am glad it went to a good home.

Re: Project "Do work son!"

Well, I got a little more done yesterday. Just about finished up the firewall, patched the vent in door, and cut out a little rust on the passenger side of the cab. I hope to get a little more done this evening. I just got suckered into going to the mall.

A few more pics. As well as my ghetto sander. i don't have one of those big nice ones, so I use this....it works really well for fitting patch panels.

Re: Project "Do work son!"

Last post for the weekend, possibly the week as this one will be busy. I was able to get the ac delete about 98% done. Started on the cap and trimmed a little more of the drip rail. Grinder got away form me, chewed through my glove and got me pretty good. Decided to shut her down there for the weekend. Cleaned the garage and called it good. Have a good week everyone.

Re: Project "Do work son!"

Got a little bit done this weekend. I was able to get the frame stripped except for the rear springs. Those jokers are rusted in there. I'll put some heat to them and get them off this week. The frame and parts will be headed to the media blaster this week. I also picked up my block from the machine shop. I had it cleaned up and made sure that it was a builder. The backyard now looks like a junkyard.

I have learned one thing from your thread and that is the magnets to hold the metal. Some times a person needs to get out of his box and thanks for the idea.

Thanks man. I do the same thing. There a ton of guys on here with twice the talent with half of the tools that I have. I learn a bunch on this website everyday.

I got the magnets at Harbor Freight.
